My latest template is probably the most customizable Blogger XML template yet! Users can change almost all background and font colors for each section using the Fonts and Colors interface, and do not need to hack the template code! This is optimized for ads with a wide sidebar which can include two 125px square ads side by side, and since there are no images used in this template, you can be sure it will load super fast!

I personally love the Gluttony theme! When I looked at the demo, I thought of so many ways of customizing it. Hahaha. I just wish I have time to do a complete redesign--plus the knowledge to put a 3rd sidebar.

ReplyDeleteThanks for this - I have been really struggling searching through all the templates online. I usually find one I like but then when I install it there are no standards and everything gets all messed up.
Anyway, I was on the verge of trying to switch to another platform but I am going to try one more. I had a question - I downloaded the "iplantilla" template, but then when I install it and view it online, the calendars display the name of the day instead of the number in the calendar as intended. Is this strictly a browser issue? I assume there will be other minor inconsistencies I might find and I am trying to decide if I should go with it and try to get it fixed a little at a time. Anyway, thanks for your help and I appreciate your site. I wish Blogger would simply offer new templates and tools every few months instead of years then I would not have this issue - ha! :)
One more thing I noticed is with the foreign language. I can edit the text in the html, but even the "colors and fonts" are in the foreign language as well. There is no easy solution for this, correct?

ReplyDeleteDon't worry, it's not a browser issue! The templates which have a calendar widget usually require you to change the date format in your blog settings.
For the iPlantilla template, you need to change the date format to resemble "15 march 2008" (this is done in Settings>Formatting in your Blogger dashboard).
Other templates may need different settings, so if you can let me know which one you are using, I will find out for you and pass the message on to you.

ReplyDeleteI took a look at the template demos. Quite a few of them were great. One major problem that I saw. The java script/css were hosted on other sites. If these sites have problems(which I have seen quite a few times) my blog will also have problems.

The comment avatars you see here are MyBlogLog avatars which I installed using this hack.
It's not too difficult to make this work, though I would advise you to host your own script to run this if you can. Or alternatively, you could use my script by following the instructions on this page.

ReplyDeleteFor Richard: mostly I've noticed problems with scripts and images which are hosted on free services, such as Photobucket and Google pages (where the bandwidth is exceeded).
Wherever possible, it would be better to host scripts on your own hosting service and change the URLs in the template accordingly. This way, you will always be on control of your own template!
Just to let you know, all images and scripts used in my own designs are hosted on a paid server with quite a lot of bandwidth. So you can be assured that the images and scripts will not disappear for a very ling time! Generally, i do also include all images and scripts used in the download folder too, so that users can upload these to their own hosting provider if they choose to do so.

From what I see around the net it does not look as though I am going to reach anyone nor have any luck. ReplyDeleteFor your problem with the calendar widget, here is what you need to do:
Go to Settings>Formatting in your Blogger dashboard and choose the TimeStamp Format option. Then change the timestamp setting so it will look something like this:

The actual date you see will probably be different, though this is the format you should be looking for.
Once you've done this, save your settings and the calendar widget should work just fine for you.

Actually now that it's back and I look carefully...none of the other post options show up either...such as

I loved the Aspire template, but when I go to upload, the following pops up:

Please confirm that the following widgets should be deleted. All the widgets' configuration data will be lost.

And in the Read Me text that's included with the template, it tells you to go to the Archives widget to edit the widget...but there's no Archives widget (yes, I saved Aspire with BlogArchives1 to see what it would do the first time around).
I looked around for an answer to this specific problem, but I haven't found anything as yet. (This is on a test blog, BTW.)
Do you have any clue as to why this is happening? Does it have to do with Blogger's own templates?

ReplyDelete@Aletara81 - You can change the red bar color by editing the 'fonts and colors' option in the Settings tab.
ReplyDelete@Cidao - Colors for the calendar code, I think, would have to be hacked specifically, if not the same as Aletara81.
@Gemini - There is no such thing as a non-English template as the code is universal. If you plug in the relevant text or site into Babelfish, you'll see a rough translation of your query.
@Amanda - I hacked some of your code for the Super Custom template, namely changing the text-transform property from lowercase or uppercase to normal. I copied the template from Blogger into Dreamweaver, made my changes, but then after copying back into Blogger, it warns me about losing the Navbar widget. Huh?

I LOVE the aspire template. I've tried to upload it a bunch of times. I think the problem is that I haven't extracted the XML. I'm not sure if I know how to do this: I did manage to separate the "read me" part, but when I uploaded the rest, I kept getting the warning that it was not properly parsed. I'm learning as I go, so I would love it if you were able to tell me where I messed up.....if not, I'll stick with what I've got!

ReplyDeletehi! i'm using the Super Custom template and did change the date format to YYYY-MM-DD format. but strangely, the calendar only shows correctly when viewed using Google's Chrome browser. With Firefox, it displays as "Sep9" and in IE, it displays as "2008-09-09".

I know this sounds odd, but i want the feed to still work for pinging and since i publish to other communities through my feed, but I don't want people subscribing to my feed. I want them visiting the site. Is there anyway to remove this link, i uploaded to a test site and have looked through the code but found no solution. I realized that your Super Template was written prior to Blogger's offering of the embedded comment option therefore, the code necessary to embed comments was not part of Super Template. I needed to add the code. Sorry to bother you.
