Over at Blogging Tips, my latest guest post discusses some useful tips and tricks you could use to optimize your Blogger template for search engines.

While designing the new template for Blogger Buster, I realized many methods which can help search engines spiders index our content more effectively, resulting in better search result rankings for our blogs. If you're interested to learn more about these methods, please pop over to read my guest post on Blogging Tips and let me know your opinions on this article.

  1. Hi Amanda, I'm excited to do these changes in my blogger blog, but I have this question that makes me feel insecure to do so, because my blog has already more than 1000 entries.

How will changing Blogger’s title tag affect my already indexed posts? (and some of them well-ranked?)
Will I experience some visit shortage for some days til everything gets reindexed or something like that?

Please bear my english, hope you can answer - I already posted this on Blogging tips, but I figured that you will read sooner here. Sorry for double-commenting.

    Cheers!

  2. Hello HD,

No worries about the double comments. The answer would be appropriate for the readership of both blogs, so I'll also answer this over at Blogging Tips ;)

When you change the title tag, it won't affect your URLs at all, only the title by which they are referenced in search results. So the posts which have already been indexed will still be present in search engine results. But when the spiders next crawl your site, the title by which they are referenced will most likely change.

The decision to implement this is a tough one, and one which you may need to research before deciding whether or not to use this hack. Which would contain the most relevant keywords for your blog content: your blog's title, or the titles of your posts?

If it is the former (your blog title), then you would be best advised not to use this hack.

However, if your post titles contain more relevant keywords, this hack would be suitable for you, as search engines would value your posts more highly for the keywords they discover first in the page titles.

I should warn you about one slight problem I have discovered about this hack though: once installed, you cannot save your blog after moving widgets around in the Page Elements section. To move them, you would either have to remove the code added for the post-titles hack, or move widgets manually in the Edit HTML section.

Hope this will help answer your questions!

  3. Thanks Amanda! Everything's clear now :)
Yes, I've read that everytime that you need to move page elements, you should remove the code, and once you finished moving widgets, put it again.

I will make this change, I think it will really help my blog, as my most important keywords are in my posts titles.

Thanks again your quick help :)

  4. Well, it didn't last long :( I'm getting this error when trying to put the code (for optimizing the title) again after moving elements:
Your template is invalid because the tag 'b:section' appears inside of the tag 'head'.

    It is fixable?
