25 "Blues" three column template download

I've now finished work on another 3 column Blogger template (XML format). This one's in a classic "Blues" colour scheme (hence the name), featuring two sidebars on the right of the main posts section. Here's a screenshot for you (click to enlarge):

This template features many customisations including:

  • Complete control of background colours for all sections
  • Social bookmarking buttons
  • Post calendar widget
  • Label cloud
  • Rounded corners
  • Add/remove page elements in blog header and posts section

For instructions on uploading this template to your blog, please read this post.

You can also preview the Blues template in action here.

I'm also developing a few more Blogger templates to download which I'll post as soon as they are ready. Please leave your comments and opinions below.

Nice template Amanda. I see the calendar is clipped on the right hand side in the pic. I presume this is not on the template itself?
I am using your original template on www.instantreport.org. Very nice.
Please keep them coming! They really are appreciated.

Thanks for your comments, Terry. I'm working on different methods of customising the calendar for various templates I'm developing, so you should see some improvements soon.

Also, I should be uploading a new template for New Blogger today which I'm rather pleased with. More will be uploaded shortly, as I'm rather enjoying working with new templates!

Your site looks great with the three col template! Some great ideas there to read about.

Best wishes,

Amanda

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for taking the time to work on the template. I copied the template and tried to preview/save the template. I both cases, I got the dreaded message:

Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The document type declaration for root element type "html" must end with '>'.

But it looks like others didn't have a problem that I faced from the comment above. Why do you think they can save the template while I cannot?

Hello Peter,

Someone else had this problem when trying to download another template. It seems there was a problem when downloading the file rather than any problem with the template. Try this: delete the file on your computer, refresh the cache on your internet program and try to download again. This should correct the problem for you.

If you still receive errors after this, I'll send you the template to copy and paste instead. Hope this helps!

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for the timely response, your advice and your offer. I cleared all private data in Firefox 2.0. No luck. I tried my favourite trick, using different browser. I tried IE7 and Flock. All failed. Could you send me the template as attachment in xml format which I can upload?

If I succeed with this and if you have other 3 column xml templates, I will make a post and link to your site. My blot is popular with bloggers.

You can use this email address cikguas227 at yahoo dot com

Thanks

Hello Peter,

I've been trying to send you an email with the XML file attached but the mail keeps failing with a message about spam (I can only suspect this is because of the URLs contained in the template). If it helps, I've pasted the entire code into a text file which you can copy and paste instead. This is located here. I've also sent you an email about this, which I do hope you can receive!

My sincere apologies for this inconvenience,

Amanda

I love this template because of it's flexibility, but it's not compatible with Haloscan. Is there any way that you could fix that?

7 August 2007 13:30 Amanda said...

Hello Shelia,

The template should be compatible with Haloscan, but you would need to install this manually as the auto-installer on the Haloscan website doesn't seem to work with modified Blogger templates. I've posted a tutorial to help install trackbacks only, if this is what you're looking for (see this post for full details). If you also need to install the comments feature, let me know and I'll show you how to place the appropriate code into this template.

7 August 2007 13:35 Shelia said...

Thanks for responding so quickly!! I do want to use the comment feature also. I attempted it manually with the same line of code that Haloscan says to use but it did not work. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong. HELP!!

7 August 2007 16:45 Amanda said...

Hello again Shelia,

It is tricky to install this manually! Especially as there is so little help in the Haloscan section about manual installation for blogger!

To make things easier, I've uploaded a new version of the Blues template featuring both Haloscan trackbacks and comments-the only thing is that you'd need to find every instance of my username (amandaf) and replace it with your own. You can download the Haloscan enabled Blogger template here:

Haloscan Blues Template Download

I've uploaded this temporarily to one of my testblogs so you can see it works okay (take a look here).

Hope this works okay for you. Just remember to replace my haloscan username with your own. You'll need to expand widget templates to find them all. I think there are about 10 in all.

Best wishes,

Amanda

Amanda, you are a treasure among treasures!!! You have no idea how greatful I am that you took the time to this. You saved me a whole lot of time and additional effort. I'll send you an email so that you can see what the website looks like when I bring it back up. Bless you!!

I like this template. Can you make it non-xml (so html/ xhtml)? Thanks.

22 August 2007 23:14 Amanda said...

@ Anonymous: I'm not sure what you mean. Do you need this for a Classic blogger template (non-layouts) or do you need the template's HTML code to paste into your editing box?

Let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.

I love this template but the download link doesn't work for me. Would it be possible to get the code to copy/paste directly? Thanks!

I can't figure out how to use the "read more" function. Can someone help?

23 April 2008 16:41 callmekelly said...

Now my calendar isn't working right. It's too wide. Please help.

25 April 2008 22:27 Amanda said...

For Callmekelly:

For the "Read More" function to work, you will need to add a template to your post editor. I explained this in full in this post which I hope may be helpful to you.

The calendar is looking a little squashed in your blog. By any change, have you altered the width or padding at all?

It may be better for me to help you by email with this, so feel free to drop me a line and I'll explain in detail how to solve this problem.

Best wishes,

Amanda

will try this one out later...thanks to your expertise in creating beautiful templates for blogger.

I really want to use this template, but when I click on the download xml link, it takes me to a page of code rather than allowing me to download the zip file to my computer. Any thoughts?

22 July 2008 05:19 M said...

Ok, I have it downloaded and it looks great. But, I am wondering about the "_" that follows blog titles. I see it is in the sample too, and I can't figure out why it is there or how to remove it.

Seriously, this site is amazing!

I have the same problem... the link for downloading doesn't work. It is really a nice template so it would be great if you could fix this bug! :) Thanks!

Hi Amanda,

I love it too! But I get the same problem as the commenter above. Any ideas? Should I not be doing this in Firefox?
