77 Recent Posts Widget for Blogger
July 30, 2008 /

Many Bloggers use a Feed widget to display links to recent blog posts. However, when using this widget, we are limited to display only 5 items or less.

So I have created a widget which allows you to display more than 5 recent posts. You can customize the title and choose how many posts you would like to display, then install directly to your blog at the click of a button!

To install your own recent comments widget in your Blogger layout, simply follow these steps:

  1. Choose a title for your widget, or leave this blank if you prefer not to display a title.

  2. Add your blog's URL in the box provided. Do NOT add the HTTP:// part, or a closing forward slash as these are already generated by the script.

For example, you can enter yourblog.blogspot.com or www.yourblog.com in the blog URL text box.

However, http://yourblog.blogspot.com or www.yourblog.com/ will not work!

  3. Choose how many post titles you would like to display. This is set to 10 by default, though I have successfully experimented with up to 100!

  4. Click on the "Customize" button to save your changes, then the "Add to Blog" button will be highlighted. You can then click this button to add your customized recent posts widget to your Blogger blog.
Here is the widget installer to add your recent posts widget to your blog:

How this works

This widget references a JavaScript which parses your blog's feed and displays the titles of the most recent posts in a list.

Unfortunately the script I am using causes problems when trying to display a summary of latest posts, so at present I am unable to offer this feature.

Let me know what you think!

I hope you enjoy using this widget! Please let me know your thoughts on this by leaving your comments below.

I'd want a unique label feed as I described here: http://crazyseawolf.blogspot.com/2008/07/feeds-para-marcadores-do-blogger.html

May I change my blog feed url in code?

I just installed this on my blog (translated as 'recente berichten', but it seems that it's unable to render 'ü', which happens to occur in the title of a recent post. Is there anything I can do 'bout this?

30 July 2008 09:23 Cranked SEO said...

JavaScript slows down your page. Significantly.
You can only have 2 JavaScripts running at the same time when rendering your page, and if they are both busy (fox example, fetching data from a feed), your page rendering simply stops.
The effect is even worse in Internet Explorer.
I even use a feed widget to render 'Top popular posts' widget on my page - this is significantly faster.

OK, I switched to Bloggers own feed-thing for now.

So, that's why my blog is so ... slow. I think JavaScript can slow down page if the script is too much. I missed this part :

"..You can only have 2 JavaScripts running at the same time when rendering your page, and if they are both busy (fox example, fetching data from a feed), your page rendering simply stops..."

Thank you ....
May be I will turn back to use feed.

great.. but make it a drop down menu since there are no descriptions as yet.. that would be awesome. it could do so much more without taking up more space.

Amanda, this is a great widget! I have been looking for something like this for a long time. I set the maximum posts at ten to show in my sidebar for now. The listings are bulleted by default (for me, anyway) and I made the lists centered. Thanks again! Vic.

5 August 2008 23:03 A Careful Shopper said...

Well, it deserved to be over the posts column, rather than the sidebar. I also made the title a link to the homepage so that it would refresh and show the list in case it didn't completly load when the site is first visited.

Same with me. Somtimes the title(Recent Posts) is there with none of the post listed.
I have a fluid 3 column Blog and originally the code came to my left column - so I moved the line of code to the right side column . . . ?

Hey Amanda! Thanks for the post, you have no idea how much i needed something like this. However it doesn't do what i want fully. I put 1000 and it still goes to max of 25. That's what i get from feedburner, too. How can i get the entire list of my posts as a list? Also, I use foreign characters in my blog and those characters don't show correctly.

any suggestions might you have?

again, thanks!!!!

http://bloggertinker.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-to-put-recent-postsrecent-articles.html

This is the simplest and easiest way to add a Recent Posts/Recent Articles widget in your blog. Unlike other blogs, the tutorial here uses the standard Blogger Feed widget to make the Recent Posts/Recent Articles widget. And I am 100% sure your Recent Posts/Recent Articles widget will work.

Nice Tutorial though... Faster than my tutorial.hehe

Worked perfectly on new blog until I got past 25 posts but it now only lists latest 25 titles.

I thought this might be because I was using the Blogger default of 25 posts per page, but I changed that to 50 & widget still sticks at 25.

Is there any way round that?

Thanks!

My blog has around 28 posts currently and it would still keep increasing soon. But i am not abel to see my 28 posts in the recent posts widget. It defaults to 25 posts only.

Please look at my blog (note:- recent posts heading is renamed as "Blog Contents" in my blog)
