Today it seems almost all blogs which use Pay Per Post have been reduced to a PageRank of ZERO!
I could hardly believe Google would stoop so very low as to punish bloggers in this way when I first heard the news this morning. After the recent lowering of PR for blogs which use Text-Link-Ads and the like, it seems to me that Google are punishing anyone and everyone who uses an alternative (and dare I say, better paid) alternative to AdSense monetization in their blogs!
For those of you who do use Pay-Per-Post, please don't worry too much. From what I read in the forums over there, PPP are looking into alternative methods of ranking blogs for paid posts. You can check out this thread for information on this subject.
Thankfully I don't feature any paid posts on this site, so my PR has remained stable. I am so sorry for all of you whose PageRank has been reduced to zero. I don't yet know for certain if the strange Pagerank behavior is a temporary glitch or an all round slap for paid bloggers, but you can be sure that once I know more about this, I will be sure to post the info here for you all.

Hi Amanda, I was given a page rank of 4 the same time you was and just checked this morning. Either the page rank tool I am using is not working or neither of us has a page rank. I also checked yahoo and the drudgereport and neither have a page rank. I think if google is going to keep playing with this, they could end up upsetting bloggers to the point that they will seek out different advertisers and not post google adsense. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteHello Mike,
ReplyDeleteI just checked both our sites using my PR tool (in the tools section) and we both still have a PR of 4 (phew!)
Hopefully this means that your checker wasn't working :)
I think most bloggers who earn from their sites are already seeking out other non-google methods of monetization. After reading the PPP forums today, I saw a string trend in bloggers removing Adsense and Analytics from their blogs. Many are now also moving from Blogger to Wordpress. If things carry on as they are, Google will soon see a big dent in it's pocket!
Wow, I know I just joined PPP. Thank goodness my PR remained at 2..hope it stays that way, at least for now. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Amanda
ReplyDeleteFirst let me say thanks for the advice you offered on the Google group for bloggers regarding the error code when uploading pics. I saw your post and cleaned out the browser settings like you suggested and the error code went away.
Now about the PPP:
I joined PPP a while back to see what they had to offer but never used the service.
I think it is a good idea that Google is "punishing" those who are using the PR feature as a tool to sell their blogs. I don't mind PPPs or monetized blogs (mine is monetized) but the PR feature was never intended to be used to pimp out blogs.
Plus people who buy links on blogs with a high PR or pay for posts are only doing it for the PR value in an effort to get one over on Google/searchers and the rest of the webmasters/bloggers who can't afford to buy their way into a high PR. In the long run I think Google's "punishments" will lead to a more even playing field on the net.
Think of it like this:
Say I start a blog like yours and say I have a few thousand dollars to spend. Instead of doing what you've done (write content, help on forums etc) I go to something like PPP or I pay bloggers with high PR for links.
Soon I'd be a lot more "popular" than your blog because I was able to buy my way through links and traffic. Would you think it was fair that I'd come up in searches above you just because I paid people to blog about me or paid them for links in their sidebars/footers?
Shouldn't I should earn my way to the top and not buy my way into the top of results.
Also I minute ago I was trying to read this post of yours and I got this message:
Server Error
The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
Please try again in 30 seconds.
Just thought I'd let you know.
weellll
ReplyDeletemy PR remains on 1
maybe because I only did 2 PPP posts
