48 Help! My Template Disappeared!
February 02, 2010 /

As many of you may now realize, I've been on a somewhat lengthy hiatus...

Unfortunately in my absence, one of my websites used for hosting older templates and related images has disappeared! This means that many of you currently using these templates now find them unusable, or downright ugly.

Luckily, I've managed to find an old backup CD which includes most of these templates and I'm now in the process of updating them.

Unfortunately, the backup CDs are mostly corrupted. I'm unable to access the images used for these files in order to update the templates.

The templates affected by this issue are:

  • Sunset
  • Girly Web 2.0
  • Magical - Now updated - see below
  • Sweet Dreams (all versions)
If by any chance any Blogger Buster readers still have the original Zip files or images (and would be willing to send these over) please do get in touch!

I'm truly truly sorry for those affected by this problem and will endeavor to do all I can to retrieve and update these older templates wherever possible.

I'll update this post regularly with details of any templates I am able to update with links to the updated files. Please let me know if you're experiencing issues with a template not listed here so I can attempt to resolve all problems as soon as possible

UPDATED FILES

2/2/2010 - Butterfly Template is now updated:

  • Images now hosted on Picasa
  • Template updated to support Blogger's latest features, including comment avatars and post pages
Download updated Butterfly template from Google Code

3/2/2010 - Magical Template is now updated:

  • Images now hosted on Picasa
  • Template updated to support Blogger's latest features
Download updated Magical template from Google Code

3/2/2010 - Sunset Template is now updated

  • Images now hosted on Picasa
  • Template updated to support Blogger's latest features

Thanks to Switcher for sending over the original Zip files for the Magical and Sunset templates =]

Welcome back!!!

:)

2 February 2010 16:27 Switcher said...

With all due respect. :)

This is the very same reason I wrote this blog post, about how & why each individual blogger should host their own Blogger/Blogspot related files themselves.

Once you learn how to host the first file, the rest are very easy to host, & all for free.

Another reason why creating once own template is a great idea!!! I'm sorry to say this when you are desperate for someone to say "I have the files". :D

2 February 2010 16:40 Amanda said...

@Switcher - I do agree, and almost always include image files in the Zip for download. More recently I've been uploading images to Picasa so there is no real issue regarding hosting. These are some of my oldest templates - and I do feel terrible that losing these images means some readers can't now use their templates.

It should be, to upload images to a file hosting itself. So that the above events did not happen ...

Hi, I use the magical template. Before it disappeared, I transferred all the images to my Photobucket. I still have the .zip file in my computer if I can be of any assistance, I would be happy to help.

3 February 2010 11:26 Amanda said...

@Switcher - Thank you so much! I received the files and have now updated the templates/download links. You've been so helpful =]

@Options Mom - Much appreciated, though Switcher already sent me the files. Thank you for the offer though - I'm so happy to know readers have been willing to help me with these problems =]

@Amanda

I couldn't find anything related to the "Sweet Dreams" template.

Maybe someone else will have the .zip file saved?

The 3 .zip files I sent you, I found on the same server that your links from this blog are pointed to, listed under other url's. It's possible the last template is still hosted on that server, I just couldn't find it.

Hi Amanda,
Actually,Google had prompted messages on blogger home pages that the images in the templates will be transfered to another server. We were provided links to update it. I updated it and now my images are safe.

I ll research and let u know if I can find some help on this.

Amanda, I'm sorry for your aggravation. I hope it all works out without requiring too much extra work from you, although I know that's a tall order.

4 February 2010 00:01 Switcher said...

@Swathi,

I think that only included anything that was hosted on googlepages.com

Google was trying to move everything to sites.google.com

I had the notice in my Blogger home page, a few days ago.

I am glad to see you back Amanda.

I transferred all no actually Most of my widgets to this new template I have ( I actually forgot a few)

I don't particularly like the template I now have its not very friendly.

Why your blog is hiatus?

4 February 2010 23:39 Peter Pratt said...

Welcome back Amanda,

I posted this same issue over on your forum for Tic Tac 3-Column (Blue):

The template has "collapsed" on my site StimulatingBroadband.com. One Blogger veteran told me it had become "corrupted."

I see the same thing has happened on the demo version here mon your site. Is there anything I can do? Or can you reload it from your end?

Thanks for all of your great work.

Hi Amanda,

I have the sweet dreams 3 col zip file. If you still need it, I'll be happy to send it to you.

Amanda,

I know this has been a challenging time for you, with the crash of your templates.

It has been difficult for all of us supporting sites with templates that fully disappeared. However, it would be good if you could spend at least some time answering our questions and posts on here, and our email.

Over the last few days, for example, I emailed to you a template that I had found with at least partial functions. I haven't heard back from you in any venue as to if this could be a solution for those of us who lost a particular tmeplate.

We can't work through these tehcnical problems without your support. Thanks.

Any chance of reupload the Red/Silver template?

14 February 2010 05:09 k said...

Wow, so odd to see a few people being so demanding of FREE templates.

I hope all is well Amanda, we've missed you!

Meanwhile, switcher...any chance you can send that Girly Web 2.0 template my way? :)

Hi, Amanda. Is this also the case of your scripts? I'd been using your recent comments script for FTP publishers and it's not working in my site now. Please help...

Hi Amanda,

Glad to see you back - I've looked at quite a few Blogger support sites and always come back to you. Your hacks usually work the first time and you are a great teacher. If you answered questions in the comments so I could learn by reading your answers to others and be able to solve my problems without needing help then this would be the perfect Blogger blog! But I love it and will take it anyway I can!

I thought you had stopped this blog. I'm wondering if this problem is affecting your hack for creating drop down menus for labels? I suddenly lost my drop down menu, and the code section in that post here has gone from an Adobe error message to being parked on by GoDaddy.

Hi Amanda - I hope I'm in the right place.

I had used the spinning word cloud HTML for labels for my blog and that's now kaput with a link to you and RoyTanck in it's place.

I'm not sure if this is connected but would you (or someone else) have the code again for this please.

Thanks.
