A Simple Snow Effect Widget for Blogger Blogs!

Here is a simple snow effect widget which you can add to your Blogger powered blog in just one click! This widget does not use images to generate the snow effect: instead it uses plain white text (full stops and apostrophes) to act as snowflakes which trickle down the page. You can see this widget in effect here on Blogger Buster over the holiday period.

Click the button below to add this widget to your Blogger powered blog:

This widget was created using the Snow Effect Without Images script by Kurt Grigg which is distributed by Dynamic Drive.

This widget has been tested in both IE and Firefox and also in complex Blogger templates which use many other JavaScripts. Unlike other snow effect scripts, this simple non-image based widget works just fine!

I hope you enjoy using this festive decorative widget in your Blogger blogs! Please let me know your opinions or if you experience any trouble installing this widget by leaving your comments below.

Happy Christmas to you! The widget looks great.

Ye Gods, this script uses 75-80% client CPU? That's nuts! Not only will it make readers' PCs struggle, their PCs will use more power. Ironic that this snow effect is contributing to global warming.

cute! Merry Christmas Guys!

Makes my blog all the more festive! Thanks for giving us the heads up about it... very fun to use!

04 December 2008 23:30 Tano said...

Negative!

I focus on the "75-80%" CPU usage was using when we add it into our blog. What a lagging friendly.

By the way, thanks Amanda because of you remind us "the snow". The weather's damn cold here outside. I have to exercise a little bit at the morning and too lazy to get up!

Hum, lady. I forgot to ask you how was your last Thanksgiving, and what you plant when the Christmas coming. If you need Santa Claus coming i can help. Blogging about technical and tricks so touch, we all want to know about you life and how your social, that much pretty good and interesting for all readers.

And you will be like magnet and charms.

Hey, this is amazing! I really like it. Subtle and really effective. I've seen it on some really awesome blogs (great work everyone)!

I really hate to ask a stupid question, but is this a widget you can remove by going to "Layout" on your Dashboard? I guess I have to install it to see :)

I love this widget thanks for releasing it! I do have one problem tho, it does look nice when I add it to my blog but, it messes the scrolling up.

It makes it so you can scroll left and right and I don't want it to do that. Anyway of fixing?

08 December 2008 09:04 Gini said...

I love it! I'm definitely going to try it on one of my blogs.

I'm not able to remove it.it is almost fixed somwhere in my http://hindibharat.blogspot.com.

so how to remove it, Amanda?

10 December 2008 12:53 venkat said...

It seems to be nice, bloggers can add this as Christmas surprise to their visitors ,I am concerned about how much time it takes to load .

10 December 2008 20:18 ConsumedConsumer said...

@कविता वाचक्नवी: to remove it, delete the Snow Effect widget. If you can't find that, search for snow.js in your template code (dashboard -> Layout -> Edit HTML).

Will there be other effects after Christmas/Winter??

Hey Amanda,

I added the snow script and it works just fine. But can you get something for a white background template? Maybe light blue snow-flakes. It would be simply great for my white background blogs.

11 December 2008 14:11 PuNiao said...

Yeah, I've got it working on my blog. Thank you so much for this widget!! XD

12 December 2008 06:42 Unpink Damsel said...

Love the snow, but I am having problems with my background picture, it seems to be moving. How do you stop the background picture from moving along with the snow?

13 December 2008 10:17 Alain-Christian said...

This reminds me of the early days of the Internet when everybody was new to webdesign and would clog browsers with every new effect they learned about. First the tag cloud and now this?

I suppose the next blog entry's going to be a tutorial on making glowing text. At the bottom of the page will be a animated GIF that reads "IE ONLY!"

Also, your background is white so aside from slowing down the page (thanks) you can barely SEE the falling snow!

God only knows what other bad netiquette you would pass on to your readers if you ever learned flash.

I beg you to consider substance over bloat in the future.

13 December 2008 15:20 Takumi86 said...

I have tried to preview this before i can apply it and guess what it took me about more than a minute to load it, i guess i'll have to skip on this one since i don want my reader taking too much time to load

Anyway Merry Christmas Amanda, i really interested to exchanging Blog link with you but well..

14 December 2008 04:27 Jesica said...

thanks! it looks so cute on my blog. :o)

15 December 2008 04:07 EastwoodDC said...

The snow is only visible at the bottom of my blog (partly due to a light background?) and the slider bars are going nuts as snowflakes drift off the right side and bottom. I think it needs work.

15 December 2008 13:58 The Country Rose said...

Very cool! Thank you!

16 December 2008 19:36 Daryl said...

This is so cool .. the only thing better would be if it had an on/off switch

16 December 2008 22:27 Tails said...

A great widget :) Thanks for making it! It would be great if the snowflakes were a tiny bit bigger though :)

Just a note, it slows down my slideshows that I have running on my blog...any way to fix that? :(

I put it on one of my blogs and it was beautiful. Then I added to a second blog - looked great - then after about 10 minutes it stopped working. Blank widget. Went to previous blog and it was blank there too. Kind of coincidental they both kicked out at the same time. Wondering if it's blogger doing something.

oh geez, I'm losing my mind - snow working fine. It's the rotating tag cloud that cut out. Sheesh!!!!

Are you able to help?
